Recycling at Serenity

Wisconsin has a strong history of recycling and we each have a role to play in its continued success. In fact, Wisconsin’s recycling law bans the landfilling or incineration of certain materials to conserve valuable resources and landfill space. We do like to recycle here at Serenity, which is why there is a big bin in the kitchen for recycling. I understand it can be confusing sometimes, so here is what we can recycle here:

Plastic bottles, water, soda, milk, all get recycled. Some may need the thin plastic outer label removed and trashed, but all should have the caps screwed on, and should be rinsed first. Still unsure? Look at the bottom of the bottle and if you see a recycling symbol with any number 1 through 7 in the center it is recyclable.

Metal recycling: Aluminum cans, tin cans and steel food containers as well as metal beverage cans, pie and baking tins, foil and food containers are all ok, but they should be rinsed of food.

Cardboard, corrugated and food boxes and soda/beer cartons are all recyclable but should be flattened.

All paper products can be recycled except for wax and plastic covered paper plates.

NOT RECYCLABLE:
Plastic grocery bags, and bags for bread and produce, zipper lock bags and plastic wraps are not recyclable. You can however take these products to the Piggly Wiggly in Delavan for drop off. These products are often recycled into durable low maintenance lumber alternatives.

Styrofoam is not recyclable. That includes the foam and plastic clamshell take out containers from restaurants.
